How to draw a stocking – Allows acquiring to begin!

Stage 1

In this first step of this guide on drawing a sock, you will start at the top. For this design, we used curved lines for the top and sides of the sock hem. Then, for the base of this section, we used straight and jagged lines to create a spiky pattern for the base. Stockings are often hung on a wall or mantel, so they often have a small fabric loop to hang them on. We’ll also add it to this step, and you can draw it with some simple curved lines at the bottom. Finish this step by drawing a slender shape for the bottom opening, and then we can continue to step 2.

Step 2 – Now remove the flanks of the base.

Now that you have completed the upper part of this bottom drawing, we can start drawing the central part of the garment. It should be accessible at this step! All you have to do is draw a line going down from the front. This line will curve outward quite steeply, as shown in our reference image. Then we’ll draw another line coming down from the back of the bottom. This one will go straight down, and this line will not have a curve like the first one.

Step 3 – Remove the Following Bottom Section

Continuing this guide on how to draw a stocking, we will now add another section to it. Instead, remove a curved bar from the lower rear to the ankle province. This will extend into a flatter, slightly wavy line for the base of the bottom. Then draw a nice rounded line coming from the front of the bottom. It will be very curly because there will be a curly segment at the front of the bottom. We’ll finish this curve in the next step of the guide, so when it’s done, we can move on!

Step 4 – Next, complete the bottom outline

This fourth step of your hosiery drawing will allow you to complete the outline, preparing you for some details in the next part. As we mentioned in the last part of the guide, there will be a rolled segment at the front of the bottom. It’s a standard design for Christmas stockings, which is why we chose it for this design! You can use rounded lines to draw it and check the reference image to get it right. Once this lower front is finished, we can move on to the final details in the next part.

Step 5 – Add Final Details to Your Bottom Design

Before you add color to your illustration, we have some final details to add in this step of our how-to draw a stocking guide. These will mainly focus on some decorative elements, and in our design, we have drawn stripes inside the bottom outline. You can also add other patterns, designs, or elements like chimes! For a little more Christmas fun, you can draw a background showing the room this stocking is hanging in. How are you going to finish this stocking with your details and ideas?

Step 6 – Finish Your Sock Design With Color

You’ve called the last step of this stocking drawing, and now you can have fun coloring your creation! You have many different options for colors and art mediums that you can use for this drawing, so you can have fun being creative. Our reference image used a classic Christmas color scheme of red alternating with green for the bottom stripes. These are just a few colors you could wear, so now is your chance to show what colors would be perfect for this sock. You can also use creative art media like acrylic paints.
